Reasons for writing a blog

1. To express personal opinions and thoughts
I would be able to express my personal opinions and thoughts, even though everyone might not agree with me. A blog serves as a personal diary for me to jot down my memories through out the years. Also, it allows me to pen down my thoughts when I might be feeling down and not feel like telling anyone about what had happened.

2. To connect with the public
The social media is made to connect with the public, so does blog. It allows us to find people who share the same thoughts or opinions as we have, a blogger connect to his/her public through the comment section. By connecting with the public, it allows the blogger to have a clearer objective about what kind of content the readers are looking for and therefore the blogger can meet his audience's needs easily.

3. To share knowledge
Blogging allows sharing of knowledge, for example, I do not know if I should buy a particular DSLR. Bloggers who have used that DSLR can write a review about how they feel about the camera, as they have a first hand experience with the DSLR they will know much more than what a review page can say. They could also include photographs taken using that DSLR. Some of the photographer blogs might also include some tips and tricks when it comes to using the DSLR, how to add effects or change the white balance etc.
Also, through sharing of knowledge, bloggers can share the difficulties they have went through in their life. So that people who have experienced the same issue will know how to encounter it and know that they are not alone (eg. blog post on bullying)

4. To make a difference
Writing a blog can also make a difference, be daring to share your knowledge and what you stand for. There might be people out there that will agree with our thoughts and what we believe in, that is how we can start making a difference. We do not have to be a follower all the time, we can share a thought about a certain situation and maybe people will agree with you. Writing a blog can also influence people, by your words and what you use to support your reasoning.

5. To make money
Many bloggers, who have been blogging for quite some time might be able to earn money from just blogging, via doing advertorial or reviews of items that has been sent to them by companies. This bloggers have spend quite some time building up their traffic and such to achieve quite a successful blogging experience. Full-time bloggers who earn money through blogging (eg Xiaxue) are inspirations to others who might be afraid to start their own blog.

Furthermore, starting a blog is free.
